What NOT to do....
(Ever wonder what a differentiated program is not???)
It is not: Chaotic!
It is not: Another way to provide homogeneous grouping!
It is not: Tailoring the same suit of clothes!
It is not: More tasks and assignments but different ways of providing learning experiences!
I love having my boundaries clear cut! I feel like knowing what is okay and what is not, is super important and useful. I think it's important to keep a clear head about things and really focus on what you can do and count your milestones instead of your mishaps. If you keep on track, and you'll be just fine!
Your list of "do nots" at the top of this posting are great! I would love to know how you think you might refrain from them, yourself. How does a teacher really DO what is right? Help me understand what things you are learning from Tomlinson, specifically, as you read. What chapter are you referring to? 4 pts.
ReplyDeleteI like this idea a lot. I know that I get overwhelmed sometimes when I think about all of the potential work that is put into differentiating, but then I remind myself that I am not individualizing instruction for each individual student. I think that we as teachers sometimes get e little too carried away, and we have to remind ourselves that we don't have to make every single lesson the best lesson there ever was.
